In this Q&A we hear from Paul Richards, owner of Crompton Way Motors, an award-winning family owned and run independent car dealership in Bolton, Greater Manchester. Established in 2007, they sell used cars ranging in value from £4,000 to £25,000. Paul explains how the business takes pride in giving customers an excellent journey from start to finish, and how their relationship with Close Brothers Motor Finance plays a key part in this process.

 

How long have you been working with Close Brothers Motor Finance, and how has our funding helped to support your business over the years?

Since 2016, Close Brothers Motor Finance has played a key role in helping us grow as a business. Our relationship means they can inject more financial support into the business, which has enabled me to buy more cars, and more expensive cars. This means I have a wider selection of vehicles for customers to choose from.

Close Brothers have been rolling out quite a few new tools and solutions over the last few months. You've been using the new esign tool for a while now. How does our remote signing solution support your business and your customers?

The remote electronic signing solution helps both us and our customers as it’s quick and it’s easy to use. Customers can look at a vehicle and not have to make a decision straight away. Plus, being able to sign the paperwork remotely saves them having to come back.

How did your first few customers find signing their finance agreement away from the dealership?

They found signing remotely very straightforward. They came to us, they viewed the vehicle they’d liked the look of online. We discussed the finance options. They were happy and they chose the finance option that was suitable for them. Then they signed the documents at home when they had some free time. 

What benefits do you think the remote signing solution will bring to your business?

Remote signing has helped us greatly. It frees up a lot of our time and enables us to go out and sell more cars to more customers. A key benefit is that we get paid for the deal more quickly, which means we can spend more money on stock.

What do your staff think of the remote signing solution?


Staff love it, because basically it frees up their time. For example, we had a busy weekend and a delivery come in, we’d done the e-sign prior and the documents verified and pay out had been done, so we could concentrate on making the experience for the customer really enjoyable’

What support does your Account Manager, offer on a day-to-day basis to help your business growth?

We love the relationship we have with our Account Manager. She adds a lot of value to the business in terms of training and supporting our staff. We have a monthly business review, which gives us an insight into what’s happening in the marketplace. She supports it with data, and we talk about how we can take the business forward

The partnership with Auto Trader and Close Brothers Motor Finance is brilliant because it provides the digital data tool that our Account Manager can bring in. It can measure the stock turnover of the business, the margins on cars, how long cars have been in stock, and prices – for example whether a car is competitive within a certain mile radius. It also gives us some proposal statistics, for example the proposal take-up rate and how much commission each deal is making.
